Four men in dark suits around a long table in a villa, in black and white

Leather, wood, amber — fifty numbered bottles.

Eau de parfum

First run — 50 bottles

The composition

See our ingredients.

Macro of bergamot peel with a bead of essential oil

Bergamot

Top noteCalabria, Italy

The citrus that opens it. Almost all of the world's bergamot is grown on one narrow strip of the Calabrian coast.

Macro of Sichuan peppercorns

Sichuan pepper

Top noteSichuan, China

Not heat. A bright, tingling lift that stops the leather underneath from sitting heavy.

Macro of black leather with hand stitching

Leather

HeartPerfumer's accord

Not an animal product. Leather in perfumery is an accord — a blend built to smell like tanned hide.

Vetiver roots and tonka beans on black slate

Vetiver & tonka

BaseHaiti, Java, Brazil

Roots and beans. Dry, earthy and faintly almond — the reason the whole thing holds together.

Sandalwood shavings and amber resin on black slate

Sandalwood

BaseIndia & Australia

Creamy and quiet. The note that takes the edges off everything around it.

Translucent piece of amber on dark stone

Amber

BasePerfumer's accord

Labdanum, benzoin and vanilla, built into a warmth that outlasts everything else in the bottle.

The house

No plaque on the door.

They say every city has a house you will not find a sign on. Ours stands above the lake. The man who keeps it never raises his voice — and when he leaves a room, what stays behind is not a phrase. It is a scent.

Cut bergamot on white marble with wine-red velvet, by candlelight

The opening

Sharp. Unmistakable.

Bergamot leads. It decides whether anyone looks up when you walk in, so it is meant to cut rather than charm.

A man in a classic convertible on a lake road, in black and white

The arrival

He never calls ahead.

The road along the lake bends twice before the gate. Anyone who matters arrives unannounced — and is expected anyway.

A gold signet ring with a deep red stone on black leather, white linen beside it

The heart

Raw. Held in check.

Leather and Sichuan pepper underneath, kept on a short rein. Soft-spoken. Never harmless.

A raven on the stone balustrade of the villa terrace at dusk, the lake far below

Il corvo

The raven remembers.

There is always a raven somewhere on this house. It watches every deal, every guest, every man who arrives hungrier than his own name. What the raven sees, the house never forgets. Corvino is Italian for raven-black — the name was never really a choice.

Amber resin and sandalwood on black slate, wine-red silk behind a white candle

The base

Warm. And it stays.

Amber, sandalwood and tonka close it. This is the part still there hours later, when you have already left the room.

A vaulted brick wine cellar

Patience

Good things are not hurried.

We would rather move the date than release something that is only nearly right. It goes out when it is right, not when the calendar says so.

Hands pouring amber oil into a bottle by candlelight
